Changing Higher Education in Japan?

The Chronicle: Daily news: 05/25/2007 -- 08: Japan's New Science Adviser Wants to Shake Up Higher Education

Changing the entrance exam system might be useful. Changing the hierarchical system? Hmm...it would be relatively easy to change the system, but that doesn't address cultural practices, which is much harder to change--especially with a top-down approach.

Hi, Paul-san! I say "very very long time, no see!" Maybe you don't remember me but I'm Hideki Konishi who was in the second language class of UWSP in 1992. I used to be called "Hide." I've come across your name on the website.
I remember that you and I with other Japanese guys had Sake and foods in a room of the dormitory called "Pray", which was very fun.

It's nice to know that you are doing great and honor for me to have talked with you who now have an amazing resume.

I'm currently a "salaryman" in Tokyo, so if you are coming to Tokyo to give a lecture, I'd like to go to improve my poor English writing skill.

Hope to see you again sometime.

Hi Hide san,

Thank you for your message--what a nice surprise. I'll be in Nagoya this summer and will probably spend some time in Tokyo. It would be great if you could come to one of my talks!

Best,

Paul
